Statue by Iris van der Zee
The Statue : A symbol of power, beauty and historical value.
Although, those are the dogmas it was created with. Placing the sculpture in contexts of violence, the piece no longer represents its maker’s idea, but seems to take on a life of its own.
Getting beheaded by ISIS; beat up by protstants, or burries after being cut in pieces in the outbacks of Berlin.
Ages after the classical sculptor created his sculpture, I reconsider its symbolic meaning in the context of today’s violent events by using photography, sculpture, found footage and digitally manipulated documentation.
