Mountains, waves and skies by Julie van der Vaart
Signed copies in stock
Julie’s body of work radiates what one could call an aura of peacefulness, in which the notion of peace, as inherited from both eastern and western philosophy, is dynamic rather than static. The inner movement of gaining inner peace is the dynamic quest that moves Julie’s images. Especially in times in which we are overwhelmed by ubiquitous loudness and frenzy, inner peace is a most rare quality and state of heart and mind to achieve. One could almost assert that is a forgotten quality.

I live not in myself, but I become
Portion of that around me; and to me
High mountains are a feeling, but the hum
Of human cities torture: I can see
Nothing to loathe in nature, save to be
A link reluctant in a fleshly chain,
Class’d among creatures, when the soul can flee,
And with the sky, the peak, the heaving plain
Of ocean, or the stars, mingle, and not in vain.
