We are drawn towards religion and faith because they are incomprehensible by the limited means of our intellect.
The starting point of Oliver’s work is his journey to Calcutta to visit the Hindu festival of Durga Puja.
This religious festival is one of the biggest of the year, as a photographer, he approached the subject as a poet who sees the things that surrounded him.
By doing so, he is raising the question of how religion or faith is able to unite the believer with himself and the world that surrounds him and make him feel one.
Transcending the description of the festival as a mere event, he is able to pose questions on a higher, poetic and symbolic level.
